AppleTalk Connection software for the Macintosh computer provides the most current version of Apple’s signature networking software. New for this version is MacSNMP, Apple’s implementation of the industry-standard SNMP network management protocol. With MacSNMP, networked Macintosh computers can be managed from a variety of available consoles. AppleTalk Connection also includes the latest version of the AppleTalk transport stack plus updated software drivers for LocalTalk, Ethernet, and Token Ring.
Since its introduction in 1983, AppleTalk has evolved into a powerful networking system that is suitable for large and small organizations, and one that remains the easiest in the industry to use. Creating a network is simply a matter of connecting devices with the appropriate cables; the AppleTalk Connection software takes over from there. And AppleTalk’s Name Binding Protocol allows quick and easy access to network resources such as printers and servers using names that you create.
AppleTalk Connection is a complete foundation for network printing and file sharing, as well as for collaborative and client-server functions like electronic mail and database service. Apple will continue to enhance AppleTalk by inte-grating networking standards like SNMP to improve its scalability and efficiency.
Available through all Apple retail channels, AppleTalk Connection comes in a single-user package, with multi-user license extensions offered as an econom-ical option. Apple also offers AppleTalk Administration, a product that provides comprehensive documentation and utilities for centralized configuration of the SNMP software.

Automatic Addressing
AppleTalk devices automatically acquire their own addresses so that the user doesn’t need to learn how to set addresses.
AppleTalk Zones
AppleTalk supports a resource-grouping feature called zones, which allows easier access to resources in large internetworks.
The SNMP agents included in this product support the following Management Information Base (MIB) definitions:
• parts of the AppleTalk MIB (RFC 1243): LLAP, AARP, ATPort, DDP, NBP, and ATEcho groups
